Building Beds, Building Hope: Over 100 Volunteers Unite for Local Kids
Our recent Build-A-Bed event was more than just a volunteer day, it was a powerful example of what happens when a community comes together to care for its children.
Held at the Texas State Technical College (TSTC) campus in Harlingen, this event brought together over 100 volunteers who gave their time and energy to build 40 brand-new beds for kids in Northern Cameron and Willacy County who didn’t have a bed of their own.
From early morning until afternoon, the campus was alive with the sounds of drills, saws, and laughter. Volunteers of all ages teamed up to cut, sand, and assemble bed frames. Once built, each bed was carefully dressed with a new mattress, and fresh bedding.
This important effort would not have been possible without the generous support of Matt’s Building Materials, who donated all the lumber and supplies needed for the build. TSTC not only provided the perfect location for the event but also showed up in full force with a dedicated team of volunteers ready to lend a hand. Their partnership was key in making the day such a success.
By the end of the event, 40 complete beds were ready to be delivered, offering kids in our community a safe, comfortable place to sleep. Something every child deserves.
We’re deeply grateful to every volunteer who rolled up their sleeves, every supporter who stood by us, and our partners Matt’s Building Materials and TSTC for making this possible. Together, we’re doing more than building beds, we’re building brighter futures and stronger communities.
